About Mandy

Hi, I’m Mandy! I earned both my Bachelor’s and Master’s degrees from Ohio University in 2003 and 2005 respectively. I am an ASHA certified Speech-Language Pathologist licensed in the states of Virginia, Michigan and Tennessee. I am certified to treat both children and adults.  I have worked in a variety of settings including 19 years in public schools, a private pediatric clinic and various nursing homes.  In addition, I work part-time as a Clinical Supervisor and Adjunct Professor at Western Michigan University, teaching the Stuttering and Other Fluency Disorders graduate-level course.

My journey into speech-language pathology began when I was a child. Throughout my childhood and into my early adulthood, I received speech therapy for stuttering. When I went off to college, I actually wanted to become a music teacher but fate had other plans for me. I switched majors and the rest is history!

Throughout my 20 year-career as a Speech-Language Therapist, I have had the privilege and pleasure working with clients of all ages, treating and evaluating a wide variety of speech and language disorders. I am a passionate advocate for client/family-centered, neurodiversity-affirming and trauma-informed care, specializing in developmental stuttering. I also hold the Spero Ally of Stuttering seal and am a STARR Commonwealth Certified Trauma and Resilience Specialist and Coach.

As a person who stutters and an SLP, I have a unique perspective and passion to provide holistic stuttering-affirming therapy and support to children who stutter and their parents/caregivers. I have advanced training in Avoidance Reduction Therapy for Stuttering(ARTS®), Palin Parent-Child Interaction(PCI)Therapy, Cognitive-Behavioral Therapy and Solution-Focused Brief Therapy.

Personal interests

When not engaged in all things speech-language therapy, you can find me spending time with my family, cooking, reading, enjoying the outdoors, bird watching, exercising or having a family dance party in the kitchen! My family and I recently relocated to the DMV from Columbus, Ohio and have had lots of fun exploring all the area’s rich offerings!  I also attend as many stuttering community events as I can, as I serve as a volunteer for numerous stuttering support groups (i.e., National Stuttering Association Family Chapter Co-Leader in Washington DC, Friends Who Stutter, SPACE Community and Arts and, Stuttering Association for the Young).
